Duties and responsibilities of the industrial electrician

Industrial electricians oversee the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems in factories, warehouses, production areas and other businesses. They check existing equipment and determine if components of a system need to be upgraded or replaced. They control switches, motors, regulators and other parts of an industrial electrical system. Industrial electricians tend to work on plumbing, pneumatic and other systems. Work on robotic equipment is becoming more common and industrial electricians are also responsible for the maintenance and repair of this type of equipment

Industrial electricians work for employers such as electricity companies, steelmakers, automakers and mining companies and usually refer to plant managers or maintenance supervisors. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the overall increase in employment for electricians is expected to be 14% by 2024.

Duties and responsibilities of the industrial electrician

To maintain smooth production and production equipment, industrial electricians are responsible for managing various day-to-day operations. We analyzed many jobs for industrial electricians and found that the following duties and responsibilities are commonly reported for this profession.

Install new electrical systems

Industrial electricians are responsible for installing new or refurbished equipment for the construction or construction of facilities. They will perform tests to ensure that the new machines are ready to be developed and will correct any problems before using the equipment on a daily basis.

Solving problems with electrical equipment

When equipment in a factory has problems, it is up to the industrial electricians to determine the cause of these problems. They need to be familiar with troubleshooting various types of equipment, such as hydraulic or robotic systems, and understand why the equipment is not working properly.

Repair and maintenance of existing equipment

Once a problem is identified, industrial electricians must then use tools and spare parts to make repairs in the construction and construction of machines. Industrial electricians also perform periodic scheduled maintenance on a weekly, bi-monthly or monthly basis to keep the machines running as expected and to avoid downtime due to faults or improper operations.
