What do installers and line repairs do?


Beginners usually start with training that includes both classroom training and practical work experience. If you learn additional skills from more experienced employees, you can devote yourself to more complex tasks. Over time, experienced line operators reach more demanding maintenance and repair positions, where they are responsible for larger and larger parts of the network.

Licenses / Certifications
Although not mandatory, certification for installers and line repairs is also available from several associations. For example, ALLIANCE electrical training offers certifications for line installers and repairs in various specialist areas.

Power line installers and repairers generally do the following:

Install, maintain or repair power lines that move electricity
Identify defective devices, voltage regulators, transformers and switches
Check and test the power lines and accessories
Connect power lines between trees, towers and buildings
Climb poles and gear poles and use truck mounted buckets to reach the equipment
Operate power systems during installation and repair of trees, towers and cables
Drive work vehicles to construction sites
Follow safety standards and procedures
Telecommunication line installers and repairers generally do the following:

Install, maintain or repair telecommunication equipment
Check or test wires or cables
Lay underground cables, including fiber optic cables, directly in the trenches
Disconnect the cable in the subway line
Also lay the antenna cables on lakes or rivers
Operate power systems during installation and repair of trees, towers and cables
Drive work vehicles to construction sites
Set up customer service
A complex network of cables and power lines provides consumers with energy, landlines, cable television and Internet access. Line installers and repairs, also called line workers, are responsible for the installation and maintenance of these networks.
