A contract engineer is a specialist in the field of engineering, who oversees projects, conducts reviews and studies the legality of the contract between the client and the engineer and ensures that all terms of the contract are properly adhered to. A contract engineer must also draft commercial bids and sometimes even have to estimate budgets for a specific project, prior to contract administration or award.

A contract engineer is primarily involved in drafting and preparing documents and working on the contractual terms of a project, between clients and engineers.
